I am happy to announce that The Gaming Coalition will soon be upgrading from InvisionFree to ZetaBoards! This decision has not been taken lightly (after all, I've spent the last two weeks on a coding and scripting binge) but I think all will agree that it will be for the best. Along with the built-in new features such as user blogs, avatar galleries, the ability to post YouTube videos in posts, a built-in search engine, and much more, some new features exclusive to these forums will appear as well. I'd like to highlight some of those features. 1. The Skin The skin will remain roughly the same. I've tried as hard as I could to keep almost everything the exact same, with some good results. The forum will be much wider, making it much more appealing to look at when you are using a wide-screen monitor. If you are using a normal-sized monitor, there will be a little bit of horizontal scrolling, but nothing too outrageous. 2. Homepage Instead of taking you right to forums.thedsu.net, our plain URL of www.thedsu.net will now redirect to a new homepage that will act as a hub of gaming news and happenings. The latest news, game releases, and other info will be displayed here. And a nice feature for me is that it is runs off of the forums, meaning the homepage will update automatically with the forums. Screenshot 3. Quick Links Since the homepage offers a lot of information that is currently viewable in Quick Links, I've decided to make Quick Links focus more on the forums than on gaming. All of the important links throughout the forums will be found there, including the Mac-inspired search and help buttons in the top-right corner. The news reel will remain simply because I like it, and the Admin CP and Mod CP links you see in the screenshot will only be viewable to the right users.Screenshot 4. Arcade You may have noticed an old friend in the above screenshot. The Thunder Arcade is coming back! Thunder Arcade will be the only code on the entire Website not created by me, but I will still keep it updated and add new games every now and then. Unfortunately old Arcade scores are long-gone. Screenshot 5. User Profile Users will be given much more info to put into their profile if they wish. We will be focusing on things like Gamertags, Wii Friend Codes, and PSN IDs, but some other fun info might be in there as well. Speaking of Gamertags, I was able to concoct a nice little code that will display your Xbox Live Gamercard right into the forums (see screenshot). Screenshot When we first make the switch to ZetaBoards, some codes will not be functional immediately. Today in Gaming on the homepage will require some heavy editing, so that may take a little while to get going again, and the Shoutbox will be gone for a little while too. Fear not, for I plan on both eventually returning! Important! The conversion to ZetaBoards may take a little while. Worse-case scenario, the board may be down for a day or two. Your membership here will remain intact, along with all of your posts and any other data you may have on here. The board will be inaccessible as soon as we apply for the conversion, but we will E-Mail you once the board is up and fully operational. We do not have a set date for when we will apply for conversion, but expect it to happen sometime next week. There are still a couple of bugs I'm working out with ZetaBoards.

Update: Apparently, conversions aren't as... "immediate" as they were when ZetaBoards first released.
They seem to do them in batches now that are done every two months or so.Luckily, the last batch was done in early June, so hopefully the next conversion won't be too far away. :D |
